Living in Spanish Harlem with a man of mystery, the enigmatic G (now my husband, actually), I'm always on the lookout for a decent place to buy groceries.
I've been working in NYC public schools for more than a decade, first as a teacher of many different subjects and grade levels, now as a professional development consultant. The main portion of my time in schools is spent working with new and experienced teachers to support them in developing their teaching practice. Most of my own actual teaching now takes place on the graduate level, for CUNY -- I teach teachers who are just beginning to teach...
But in the evenings and on weekends, I love to cook. I love to read about food, online or in cookbooks or memoirs. I love to shop for food, preferably alone, so I can peruse the aisles at my own pace. I love to snack. I love to take dinner in to the bedroom on a tray, and watch bad TV with G while we nibble and smack on whatever we've been able to throw together. Sometimes I feel as if I've missed my calling -- food is such a strong avocation for me that I wonder if it shouldn't have been my chosen profession -- but I'm hopeful that having a space to do some writing about it may either ease the itch, fill the niche, or silence the _____(fill in the blank with another rhyming word)
Umm, well, food of course, and then in no particular order, literature, politics, film, performance, visual and lively arts, other lands, other lives, other times...
