I had my first Steak 'n Shake experience a few years ago, when we took a cross-country road trip with friends. On our first night, having driven from Boston to Ashtabula, Ohio, we checked into a cheap motel around midnight and, before falling into bed, noticed that there was a Steak 'n Shake next door. Our friends had lived in Missouri for many years, and insisted we go to S'nS for a late meal. And I am so glad they did!

I heart Stake 'n' Shake! The closest one is two hours from here. I do it any chance I get. But then I always have to say, "Steak 'n' Shake! And ah hailped!" (Do you get the Shake 'n' Bake commercial reference from many moons ago?)

I am so proud of you, for at least five reasons. :)

Oh Lydia - S'n'S rules! Especially when you're from the city that never sleeps, a 24/7 source of real food is a great comfort.

Cindy, you've got me. Of course I know the commercial, and now I'll never be able to go to S'n'S again without saying "And ah hailped!"

Aw, honey. I know, I did a really good job of scraping those catfish off their weensy bones. I just can't think what the other four might be... ;D

Steak and Shake is good (espeically the cheese fries) but it does not hold a candle to those little catfish fried on the bone. There is something about the bones giving it so much more flavor. And yes there is a special way to eat it without the bones coming apart. I can't believe that you only ate two!

I certainly hope 2008 gets better for you. As for Steak and Shake, we had to eat there once years ago. Literally had to. After a 6 hour flight delay, with no food or drink, it was the only place open in St. Louis super late. I was a vegetarian at the time, so I got a huge plate of fries and, of course, a shake. My husband and I still laugh about it.

Persephone -- trust me, these catfish weren't that small. Two were plenty, and they were DEE-lish!

Susan -- they are great milkshakes, though, aren't they? And at the very least you know you're getting some protein and calcium and vitamins from actual milk, rather than the questionable "shakes" (no 'milk' in their names, for good reason) at other fast food places...
